The weather is warming up and we've had some rain... that means Plovers (or Masked Lapwings) are starting to nest.
Plovers nest on the ground in open grassland so they can see threats long before they reach the nest. Avoid the nest and give them a wide berth - they will defend the area fiercely and swoop if they feel threatened.
THE BAD NEWS - While the locations they choose for nests are not always ideal, the relocation of eggs or nests is rarely successful and requires a permit from NSW NPWS.
THE GOOD NEWS - The eggs hatch in less than a month and the Plovers will likely move on with their babies at that point.
